URGENT PLEA FOR HELP FOR MY DYING MOTHER

Standard

Image

My beautiful mother, Linda, approximately one week ago.

THIS IS AN URGENT PLEA FOR HELP: The hospice nurse just left and confirmed that my Mom will likely not last until the end of the week. She is basically non responsive & her body is shutting down, all the signs of her dying is there. The ovarian cancer has completely taken over. We have tapped out all her funds & ours taking care of her over the past month and still have not recovered financially after the death of my mother in law in November. My Mom does not have life insurance or burial insurance, nothing of worth to sell, and made her wishes known that she wanted to be cremated before she became too ill.

We are currently calling around and getting prices for cremation, so far we’ve gotten prices of $695 to $995. We are hoping one or two of the decent members of our family will pitch in to help with this cost and my sister is working the phone as I type. We have current needs for toilet paper, paper towels, adult wipes for Momma, dish soap, ect. I was going to set up a GoFundMe account, but they take a percentage, and we can use every dollar we can get.

If you can help with a donation, no matter how small, I cannot tell you how much me & my family would appreciate it. To circumvent fees, you can send a donation as a gift to my PayPal account at: MyriadEnt (at) gmail (dot) com.  Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart, and I’m sure if my Mom was able to speak, she would thank you as well. Please keep her in your thoughts that her journey from this world is painless and she will get to see her departed loved ones on the other side.

Sincerely,

Mia, Jennifer & the family of Linda M.

LET’S SET THE (Alabama) TRAP ON FIRE!!! (In the tune of “We Are Strong” by Fun) – UPDATED WITH VIDEO!

The Alabama State House of Fuckery

My brilliant pro-choice friends Alexandra R. Prolifersarebullies & Jain-Way Jaxon Prolifersarebullies re-wrote the lyrics to “We Are Strong” by Fun and had the lovely Lisa Cox record it.  The audio and video are coming soon, but for now I just HAD to post the lyrics since our idiotic Dr. Governor Bentley will be signing the “Women’s Health & Safety Act” (aka HB57/TRAP) on Tuesday.  I can’t wait to share the beautiful voice of Lisa Cox & the video when it is finished, but for now, here are the lyrics:  UPDATE:  HERE’S THE VIDEO!  I was happy to provide the wonderful women who made this video with some of the pictures & videos that I took during our rallies & the Senate Floor Debate.

Give me a second, I
I need to get this story straight
Legislators are in the backroom
Hiding from the entire state
My Governor he is hating on me
Just for having ovaries,
My rights have been taken by some dumbasses
Now they’ve gone too far
You know we won it forty years ago
I know you’re trying to forget
But the Supreme Court says we’re right
And we are making no apologies
I know you’re trying hard to take it back
So if you think this time the clinic closes
And you think we’re backing down
We’ll prove you wrong

Tonight,
We are strong
So let’s set the TRAP on fire
It can burn brighter
Than the sun

Tonight,
We are strong
So let’s set TRAP on fire
It can burn brighter
Than the sun

Now I know that trap’s
All that you got
I guess that I,
I just thought,
Now we’ll find some new ways to bust it apart
You’re friend’s with Robert,
but I’ve got Barack
Me and my president will end up on top

Tonight,
We are strong
So let’s the set the TRAP on fire
It can burn brighter
Than the sun

Tonight,
We are strong
So let’s set the TRAP on fire
It can burn brighter
Than the sun

We will win this fight
(La la la la la la)
Because we are right
(La la, la la la la la la)
We will win this fight
(La la la la la la)
Because we are right
(The world is on my side, )
We will win this fight
(We have no reason to hide, )
Because we are right
( Bentley leave us ladies alone tonight?)
The iron-jawed angels arrived,
Oh, can you hear the choir?
Robert Bentley leave me and mine alone?

Tonight,
We are strong
So let’s set the TRAP on fire
It can burn brighter
Than the sun

Tonight,
We are strong
So let’s set the TRAP law on fire
It can burn brighter
Than the sun

So if you think this time the clinic closes
And you think we’re backing down
We’ll prove you wrong,
Tonight.

Women’s Day at the Alabama State House – April 2, 2012 – Noon to 2PM

Standard

Alabama women, join me & hundreds of other supporters of choice at the Alabama State House steps in Montgomery on April 2, 2013 from noon to 2PM to rally against HB57.  Planned Parenthood will be bringing in teams from DC, passing out the lovely pink PP t-shirts and lunch will be provided.  It’s time to show these men (and a few women) lawmakers that our bodies are OUR property and they have no right to tell us how to control our reproductive rights.  I look forward to seeing everyone that believes that government has no authority to control what goes on in our bedrooms!

HB57 “Women’s Health & Safety Act” (TRAP Law) & HB108 “Religious Liberty Act” Public Hearings on Wed, 2/27/13 @ The Alabama State House – Alabama Women Need YOUR Help!

Standard

There will be a public hearing in the Alabama Senate Health Committee on HB57 “Women’s Health & Safety Act” (aka TRAP Law for abortion clinics) on Wednesday, Feb 27th at Noon in Room 304 of the Alabama State House.  We need all prochoice Alabama women that can be there in the room for support!  If HB57 gets sent to the Senate & passes, we will be left with no abortion clinics in the state – effectively becoming Mississippi.  We will NOT let them take away our reproductive rights if we can help it.  Do these lawmakers (who are not doctors) realize the amount of lawsuits that this will bring and the countless number of taxpayer dollars that this will cost our already broke state?

They also pulled a ‘fast one’ and scheduled a public hearing at 11:30AM for HB108 “The Religious Liberty Act” in Room 320 that will allow employers to deny women contraception coverage in their healthcare plans.  I personally believe this was done to split up us women who oppose both bills, as we cannot be in two places at one time.  Rep. Greer has stated that he includes diaphragms as an excluded contraceptive he considers to be an abortifacient. This is MEDICALLY inaccurate (anyone with Google can figure this out)!  This is the level of ridiculousness & pure ignorance of how women’s bodies work that Alabama women are having to deal with.

Please help us by showing up at the Alabama State House on Wednesday to fight this assault on our reproductive freedoms!  @ me on Twitter to find out how you can assist us in this fight.  The Alabama State House is located at 11 South Union Street in Montgomery, directly behind the State Capitol.  You can find out more info about visiting & decorum in the State House by visiting their site here and checking out the “Visitor’s Guide”.

NOTE: If you need a ride to Montgomery from Hunstville or points south on I-65, Planned Parenthood is renting a van to bring people down for free.  Contact me on Twitter if you need a ride & I will get you in touch with the right people.  🙂

Anti HB57 “Women’s Health & Safety Act” aka TRAP Law Petitions Initially Denied Entry into the Alabama State House on 2-19-13

Standard

Dear Reader: This is what went down on 2-19-13 at the Alabama State House when a group of three volunteers (including myself) tried to deliver anti HB57 “Women’s Health & Safety Act” (aka TRAP Law) petitions to every member of the Alabama House of Representatives & Senate.

We were denied entry into the Alabama State House with 4 boxes of petitions (which were over 150 pages long, we had a total of 7 boxes but no room to carry them all on our cart) against HB57/TRAP because we did not have a “proper cover letter on letterhead” attached to each petition.  We are a grassroots group on Facebook, we have no money, are not a PAC or 501 (c) (3), and have no appointed nor voted on leadership.  The printing costs for these petitions were paid for by private Alabama citizens.  These petitions also included an 8 page attachment – 1 page explaining the TRAP Law, and 7 pages of Alabama doctor’s statements on how this law would severely impact the reproductive health & well being of women in our state.

House of Representatives Security denying us entry to hand deliver the petitions due to “lack of a cover letter”. We even offered to let the House mail clerk insert them into each member’s mailbox & were still denied.

CALL TO ACTION: Alabama Women Need Your Help Desperately!

Standard

This Tuesday, February 19th at 1PM CST, the Alabama State Legislature will be voting on HB57, the “Women’s Health & Safety Act”, which is actually a TRAP (Targeted Regulation of Abortion Providers) law.  This legislation is sponsored by Rep. Mary Sue McClurkin, an ALEC member.  This proposed law will effectively shut down the 5 abortion clinics in our state.  We need every pro-choice woman, man, group, ect in the state to show up to prove that we will not have our rights to abortion taken away from us from politicians that are not doctors.  The gallery for viewing the floor of the House or Representatives is on the 6th floor of the Alabama State House, located at 11 South Union Street in Montgomery, behind the State Capitol.  If you can’t show up, but would like to listen to the proceedings, you can listen online here.  If you can show up, make sure to visit this page about the rules on entering & decorum for visiting the State House.  You can also help by signing this petition which will be delivered personally by myself and a clinic escort to every Alabama politician in the State House on Tuesday morning, so be sure to sign before Monday morning as we will be printing the petitions out on Monday to get ready to distribute them.

In addition to the TRAP law referenced above, politicians are trying to push a “Personhood” bill (SB205) authored by Shadrack McGill – you should Google him to see some of the ridiculous things he has said to realize exactly the level of insanity we’re dealing with here in Alabama.  “Personhood” would effectively make all contraception except condoms illegal in the state & would effect in vitro fertilization as well.  We also have the “Religious Liberty Act” (HB108) that will allow employers to deny their employees contraception coverage under their insurance plans.  Women are sick and tired of these politicians acting like we cannot make our own reproductive decisions – ones that should be made between a woman, her family, and her doctor ONLY.  We already have an onerous 20 week ban on abortions based on the false evidence of ‘fetal pain’ that has been widely repudiated.  We do not need nor want more laws regarding our vaginas!

Alabama’s “New” TRAP Law – HB57 “Women’s Health & Safety Act”

Standard

The following research on HB57/TRAP is the culmination of a ton of research & hard work from Julie Slama, an Alabama women’s rights activist.  Many thanks to her for letting me share her post from our women’s group.  This is what we are up against with this so-called “Women’s Health & Safety Act”.  There will be a public meeting on this February 6th at 9AM in the House Health Committee at the Alabama State House.  We need all Alabama women that believe this is just another way to reverse Roe vs. Wade to show up for support!  There is a LOT of info here, so the text is behind the jump.
